Pollen are released by seed plants. The pollen level is depending on the season and weather conditions. The symptoms caused by allergic reactions therefore are closely related to the typical flowering periods of the respective plants.
After contact to the mucous epithelia of eyes, nose or bronchial tubes the allergens are released from the pollen and can affect sensitised persons. Patients allergic to pollen often react to certain foods as well, this phenomenon is called cross-sensitivity.
Useful tips on what to do
• Keep your windows closed or use a pollen filter
• Wash and change your clothes frequently
• Avoid food products with known cross-sensitivity
